Understandably as a student progress in their piano journey, the level of difficult will increase. Here are our top tips to help keep your piano journey enjoyable EVEN when the music feels more difficult:
1. Choose a teacher that inspires you
We highly recommend signing up for a trial class or package so that you and your teacher can test the bond between each other. Once the student bonds well with a teacher they can then become inspired to be a better piano player and improve at a faster rate.
2. Identify and break down goals
Often, we can have big goals which may seem overwhelming. When we break them down into small action steps these can seem a lot more achievable.
3. Accountability
There are multiple ways we can be held accountable in our piano journeys.
We could perform to friends, family or classmates who also love music or can support us when we are going through a challenge. It’s important to note that all of these individuals do not have to be musical. They could simply check-in with you to ask you about the progress of your lessons and overall piano journey for you to them explore further with a musical classmate or teacher.
4. Resources
We believe that musical resources do not have to be black and white! The resources or theory activities used should be fun and engaging for the student to improve retention and understanding around the concept. Some ideas are: flashcards, whiteboard activities and musical apps.
5. Inspiration
Another way to inspire you to achieve your goals is to gain inspiration from someone who is further ahead than you in your piano journey. This could simply be a live performance from your piano teacher, a YouTube video of a virtual concert or attending a live concert in-person.
Solidly implementing even one of these ideas could significantly overall enjoyment and understanding in your piano journey. Implement a lot of them, and you’ll quickly see a dramatic rise in not only the skills and motivation but transferrable skills which have a positive impact in multiple areas of your life.
